Machine tufting is a fully automated process. The word tuft comes from English and means a bundle of threads. The machine tufting process consists in inserting the threads in the premade support using several rolls simultaneously. To anchor the threads solidly in the support, a coating or interfacing is applied to the back of the rug. Then, depending on the required pile, the tufts will be cut to the desired length, left looped or worked with a mix of both. This production process allows for optimal use of the raw materials. Machine tufted rugs have a fixed width and offer a perfect finish. They are made of pure wool, a blend of wool and synthetic fibres, or synthetic fibres only. Finally, production times for this type of rugs are very short and production costs are lower.
