Boasting 14,000 works of art, the Mandet Museum’s permanent collections feature fine art, objets d’art and contemporary design, from Antiquity to the 21st century. A must-see on the region’s tourist circuit, this museum run by the Riom Limagne et Volcans urban community is also committed to promoting contemporary artists by hosting them in residence.
Now it’s Julien Colombier’s turn to make the space his own, by transforming the museum’s exhibition room and permanent collections. The artistic universe of this self-taught painter, at once dreamlike, magical and hypnotic, made up of jungles or luxuriant, colourful forests, is transposed on a monumental scale.
This retrospective exhibition is also an opportunity to take stock of this artist’s prolific career, devoted exclusively to a hypnotic plant motif. From the Massif to the motif, the territory takes shape under his brushstrokes, and places the Musée Mandet at the centre of attention.
